My incredibly racist aunt is no longer invited to thanksgiving because after being told that my brother-in-law has a half brother who is black responded with (and you have to imagine this in the most redneck accent imaginable) “that’s like being told that somebody died and you just don’t know what to say.”

Children when you want to praise them for their Simple Ways and adults when you want to punish them and animals when you want to dehumanize and stoke fear against them.

Or, about 85% of white victims in this chart were killed by white offenders. About 90% of black victims were killed by black offenders. 85% is pretty close to 90%. But when white people get killed - even though these incidents get way more press coverage than when black people are killed - nobody puts sanctimonious

And to not know that there are things you just don’t say, like the whole dancer thing. Pretty much short of an article about how a kid is getting a degree in dance and has a job as a busboy, you look racist as fuck no matter how well he moves.

What I don’t get is why a well-meaning person (not someone like Wendy Bell) would want to use the word. “Hey, I know a word that causes pain to this minority group, let me hurl it at them,” has never crossed my mind. Arguing for the right to use such words even though you’re not _____ minority just seems like a waste

I think that will depend largely on the exact wording of the laws in Pennsylvania. I doubt they have to so much prove that the comments were racist. More likely they just have to demonstrate that they negatively reflect upon their brand, and they have a right to fire her for impacting their business negatively. Pretty

Bigots will always come up with new ways to be shitty.

If my racist, bigoted, crazy 92 year old grandma had a facebook account, this is what it would look like, only she would complain more about Latinos not knowing any English. :/

See also: “they shouldn’t have so many children” and “I don't want sex ed being taught in schools!"

Two things-she’s injecting her opinion in there and that opinion is racist.

Schrödinger’s Poor: simultaneously working too many menial jobs to properly raise their terrible children while also lazily living off of welfare.

The way she described him reminds me of my ex-mother in law ( member of the Daughters of the Confederacy) who would talk about how they had black people as servants and were so different from people today because they would always stop and call her “miss” and as she put it: “They were happy to work for a good family.”

Also note that she called the waiter a teen...and then next referred to him as a child. I guess teens are children, but one who is working is likely at least fifteen. It says so much about HER view of him, IMO.

Ms. Bell has long supported black enterprise and lauded entrepreneurship by African Americans.

The thing that scares me the most is the part where she thinks she’s being positive.

I was going to say exactly that. Black people don’t get a racist pass. How much crap do we give Stacey Dash for the idiocy she spews?

“Ms. Bell’s posting of concern for the African-American community stung by mass shooting was clearly and obviously not intended to be racially offensive.”

Yes, even Stephen AAAAA Smith gets in trouble with ESPN once in a while for the stupid shit that falls out of his mouth

I’m just going to throw this out there, but I suspect that she’s wrong and that a black anchor would have been in deep shit if they said that.
