I think it was more that the original DK will be mothballed as their suppliers were moving on to better and more modern things. E.g. 720p to 1080p, 60 hz to 75+ hz, better OLED screens, etc. But point taken: 2B in the bank allows them way more flexibility and probably accelerates their development.
