Years ago a few friends and I were having a picnic/barbecue on what turned out to be a cloudy day. We were trading a bottle of sunscreen around and one person asked why wear the stuff on a cloudy day. Another friend brought her new boyfriend and I guess he was trying to impress us with his vast swath of knowledge

Advice from ladies who are better lady-ing than I, please:

I really can't wait for this "let's make everything a bit darker and more orange and blue" moviemaking phase to pass. Maybe if the economy ever gets really good again, we might get more optimistic, fun movies that don't try to add "gravitas" or whatever bullshit to everything possible.

Oh, if we're counting seminary drop outs, I can think of two who are reasonably close to my age. I'm sure there are some older men who attend my former church who fit the description as well. It's not really surprising, given that many of the students will be in their early or mid-twenties, which is a time when

Nope. Anne never publishes anything more than a few poems and some fairy stories. She says as much to the woman she thinks Gilbert has the hots for in Anne of Ingleside. You're thinking of Emily, who wrote a book of vignettes very much like LMM's Avonlea books.

My only problem with this interpretation is that it reinforces the "normality" of heterosexual girls, the way that assigning homosexuality to male characters with feminine or stereotypically gay characteristics further isolates hetero men into their cavemen social patterns. As a hetero girl who lost a childhood friend

agreed. As a white-ish dude, there is totally an Asian "fetishist" tendency that we have. I dated a wonderful Asian American woman (not sure if it was orientalist, I've dated Chicanos, white blondes, etc...I'm kinda usually attracted to women with darker hair and features be they Asian or Greek or whatever) for a bit

Yes! Asian men are no worse than any other kind of men. You see this attitude in all types of men because it is a reflex when their masculinity is threatened to go to the extreme and easy route by using and abusing women.

I've lived in a couple of very heavily-Asian-populated parts of CA and the things my Asian friends have heard from white men trying to hit on them... Good God, y'all. Better to sleep alone than be fetishized.

So, having skimmed through the comments, I think my only real question is whether it is accurate to refer to people calling for a moratorium on the use of the term "Nazi" as a descriptor for rigid, inflexible people, as "Nazi" Nazis?
