Nobody gives a fuck whether you are familiar with the nature of every site on the internet, because you are not a Washington Post reporter. It’s entirely reasonable to expect professional reporters for world-famous newspapers to understand what their sources are.

I saw Tom Hanks at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going

You seriously don’t have to both sides every single thing in existence.

I find the idea that she’s a nobody that has no grand destiny far more compelling than if she’s just some other chosen one with a notable lineage. She’s a character defined by her own choices, not her birth...kind of a first for a Star Wars protagonist.

Ah yes, because “oh she’s the secret child of X” always makes for great storytelling.

Abrams had no idea who Rey’s parents would be. Johnson said “Fine, I’m going to take your stupid mystery box and turn it into an interesting character beat.” Which he did. Yeah, behind the scenes we know it wasn’t planned that way all along, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t turn out well in the end.

Or it seems like Rian Johnson picking the best possible solution for something that never should have been a “mystery” to begin with.

Nope!  That would have been the opposite of interesting.

So do something that’s been done before?

It’s terrific. Like The Lobster, characters are living lives based on insane rules but, like The Killing of a Sacred Deer, the story is mostly confined to a single family. I think it has the best premise of any of Lanthimos’ films, and the best execution of it (that I have seen). Of course, it’s just as cruel and darkl

Have you seen Dogtooth? That’s my favorite of his.

I’m all in.  Lanthimos can do no wrong.

I don’t know if this counts because I probably wouldn’t have seen the film anyway, but it always amazed me that a professional marketing team at Universal Pictures sat down to title a $90 million movie about a heavyweight boxing champion directed by Ron Howard and starring Russell Crowe, and decided that it should be

But it’s a very enjoyable album.

Hot take alert!

Selfie, yes.  Don’t Trust the B_ in Apt 23 is a great title.  I liked it better when it was “bitch” but they dialed the title back.

In a very tiny way, I always thought Joss Whedon was inspired by Red Dawn for The Avengers: he cast Harry Dean Stanton (and in silhouette Powers Boothe), just because Stanton said “Avenge me!” against a chainlink fence famously.

I feel like there’s still more than “some validity” to the criticism of cookie cutter

Patricia Clarkson wasn’t quite what I had in mind when imagining Camille’s mother, but she is the queen of playing cold, vaguely hostile mothers so I’m sure she can pull this off. I’m pretty excited for this based on the cast and positive review, though I’m curious how well they expand the short novel into eight hour

I also thought Sharp Objects was a lot better than Dark Places. I wonder if it was because I had read the other two books first, so her style was no longer novel, but also the climax/reveal was kind of dumb. I think I liked the other protagonists more too.

I thought this was so much more powerful than “Dark Places”. I want to put something in caps, but it would probably be a spoiler so I won’t. I think I’ll re-read it before Sunday. I loved this book.
