At first when I read this headline, I thought he was doing a “Twin Peaks: The Return is the best movie of the year” thing. Not that it would literally be one long uninterrupted movie.

I like the idea behind the show, and I would be fine with them spending as much time as they like with the sitcom stuff without rushing through the “metaplot,” but to me it just wasn’t all that interesting.

That only holds for people who had cable or satellite, though—right? Norway didn’t get any free-to-air commercial TV stations until TV 2 in the early 90s, and I don’t think NRK (the public broadcaster) showed all that many American sitcoms.

“You can tell it has aged poorly because many people have misinterpreted it” seems like a non sequitur of an argument to me.

It is incredibly obvious that Trump has a severe personality disorder, as a pathological narcissist and quite possibly a sociopath. The extent to which particular actions are the result of cunning (and he clearly has some) or just egotistic knee-jerk reactions to impulses is often harder to tell.

I thought Great News was pretty damn funny. Not as good as 30 Rock, but more consistently funny than Kimmy Schmidt.

I’ve always heard it that Harding wasn’t personally corrupt, but that he appointed a bunch of cronies who turned out to be corrupt, and then either didn’t support vigorous investigations and accountability, or in some cases tried to cover up the scandals.

Thanks for the tip on Remember the Night. I watched both over Christmas, and enjoyed that one a great deal more than Christmas in Connecticut. For one thing, I thought Stanwyck had way more chemistry with MacMurray than with Morgan, and I was surprised that some of it got past the censors (though the ending seems like

We’re so glad this is what the leader of the free world is choosing to spend time lamenting since there’s nothing else going on right now.

So… that sounds like it’s not too much of a hurdle for the performers, right? And wouldn’t getting rid of unverified videos mean less piracy—on this one site, at least—and therefore help them get paid for their work?

Arne Anka (“Arnie Duck” in English) and Count Duckula need to be part of this conversation.

There should be different terms for “spouse of my sibling” and “sibling of my spouse.

Ah yes, from Woolly Dolly and the Infinite Silence.

I remember reading (though I cannot vouch for the reliability of the information) that their contract with the Tolkien estate states that they are not allowed to contradict the books.

I think a story about people is probably more interesting than one about gods. The conflicts are more interesting and relatable. (The story of how the Númenoreans in their arrogance, greed, and denial of their own mortality raise Sauron to power and bring down disaster on their country is basically a parable for the

The Silmarillion is dull because it’s basically a compendium of synopses of various stories that Tolkien never fully completed. In their more literary, albeit unfinished, form/forms (as published in The History of Middle-Earth), they are much more compelling.

Yes, there needs to be a distinction between “deadnaming” and merely providing relevant information in the clearest possible way. We should of course respect Elliot’s wishes and use the name and pronouns he prefers (as with any trans person), but it’s unreasonable to consider as offensive any relevant reference to the

I do like that they show an instance of the voice recognition not working. The lengthy pause between each command and the confirmation also indicates that this was real technology, not just smoke-and-mirrors.

I feel a need to point out that Boreanaz wasn’t on Buffy for 100 episodes (leaving after the first three seasons), so I’m not convinced he should count as four.

I also love how despite everything he’s put them through, he still manages to catch the sympathy of Alicia/Diane/etc. from time to time (and it invariably comes back to bite them).
