He plays that scene so well too, like how he’s talking about his ex and his throat catches. He takes a moment to compose himself before saying the “win” line. Terrific acting.

I understand why they protected the set for practical reasons, but it would’ve been pretty funny (and true to life) if there was a giant chili stain on the carpet for the rest of the series.

This is the best thing I’ve read on here in a long time. Absolutely iconic scene. Brian Baumgartner is one of the absolute best parts of that show.

Bizarre how her mother was made fun of when she started a company that made an absolute fortune (not even close to an easy task) while the people ridiculing her had everything handed to them from the outset and some generations at that.

In other words, the Other Given.

Why are there so many idiots among the rich? And why, WHY are the idiots always so blatantly, obviously, achingly stupid-ironic?!

Oh wow. I am ashamed to say I know Leila and David. I knew they were wealthy but had no idea about their politics. This is beyond the pale.

Oh, this reminds me! I used to work in downtown bookstore that was a magnet for shoplifters. Once a thief ran out the door with a coworker in hot pursuit, and a woman walking along took one look and took the guy down like it was nothing. Turns out she was an off duty cop!

Hon if I’ve gained anything from the last 36 years it is endurance

I’m kind of enjoying watching Congressman Matt Gaetz twist in the wind, for sure.

Former director of a non-profit I worked for was replaced by the board but decided to stay on in a different capacity. All of her anger over the situation was directed at 22 yo me. She would insist on the most ridiculous reports around 3:30, require me to have them done by end of day (I was working 2 jobs and running

It’s a very slightly modified Stella Parks recipe https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2018/02/bravetart-glossy-fudge-brownies.html

It happened last week at work. My hometown’s drivers are notorious for being just gawd-awful, and in the downtown area it’s even worse.

A big week for my girlfriend this week, she started a new job which seems to be going well, after a year of doubt and uncertainty she seems to be getting back to normal despite being still nervous about covid. Our year anniversary is coming up next week so I decided to splurge on her biggest hobby and I’m waiting for

What’s the good word? Or bad word if that’s how your day is going? Did you make anything interesting, buy or try anything interesting? I made brownies, and when I make brownies, I mean business.

Oh man, I had a terrible co-worker, she was higher up than me, but I didn’t report to her, I wasn’t in her department, but she liked to throw work at me saying do this, with no guidance or any idea what she really wanted, then when surprise surprise! the work didn’t live up to her expectations, she would call me into

And she did, as well, after she got his letter. Austen’s point is that they couldn’t fall in real love with the actual person until they gave up what they thought were their best attributes--being able to size up and judge another person the first time they met them.

Fair point. He did do that. But... There's something so off-putting about the chase that's based on the word "no."

I think the reason it works in P&P- and doesn’t in real life- is because her rejection of him causes him to re-examine his own behavior, and to reassess his understanding of who she is.

Just came to say that I really loved how you responded to this, and this part REALLY resonated for me:
