One of the public land sites I work at is a former military base, and for "fun" during COVID people were bringing metal detectors and pulling unexploded ordinances out of the river. Nothing tragic happened and I think everything has since been removed and disposed of properly but like........why?????

I work with a guy like this, he’s actually a great guy to work with and very knowledgeable and humble, but I feel bad for him because I tell he works a lot so that he doesn’t have interact with is family all that much.

They didn’t need to get anyone ready for school, schedule errands, run carpools, etc., or on the other end of the day, make dinner, put kids to bed, do dishes, and so on. Weekends weren’t their problem when it came to shopping, cleaning, and entertaining kids and pets because they had wives for that.

A friend of mine in state government wrote an annual report. One year, she completely forgot, and not a single person said anything to her. She quit writing it. 15 years go by, she tells me this story at her retirement party, and still no one asks for it.

If you are working with consultants, they work for you. You set the schedule. They do not get to dictate the hours, and it sounds like they are padding the books.
