This is unfortunately not a phenomenon unique to Hollywood. The powerful prey on the vulnerable in every industry- sports, media, politics, business- and it just happens over and over because there so many people who are complicit.

Having participated in poetry workshops, I both laughed and cringed at these because mine would’ve fit right in. And I’d read them aloud in my earnest “open-mic” voice.

The negative replies to Inslee’s tweet denouncing his cousin Mike Brown are repulsive. Those people should also be suspended from their jobs for supporting the sheriff’s joke about the protesters being hit by the car. No respect for human life.

If he is “just” an employee to her it is insane that she thinks he should pay for the property repairs out of his own pocket. She sounds too irrational to negotiate with. I hope he can find a different job where he will be valued and you can leave her in the past.

I got chicken pox when I was five and had to miss my first dance recital. My dad stayed home with me while my mom took my sister to perform. He knelt down and hugged me without saying anything while I cried, and it was the probably the most comforting response I’ve ever received from someone.

When I worked for a large corporation, I heard this kind of thing from more than one manager I reported to. People who complained were pushed out while guys like this did just fine.

Your life sounds aspirational to me! I have a job, a house and a partner but no close friends and mixed feelings about not having my own kids. Stability is under-rated but also out of reach for so many people. 

I’m thrilled to see that momentum has built enough that more people are willing to speaking out and more allies are supporting them. It’s hard to risk your job and future job prospects when you need to pay the bills. I hope this spreads, because there are examples in every industry.

Decades ago my ex-fiance cheated on me. That betrayal and the gaslighting wrecked me for a long time, but in hindsight I’m glad I found proof of the affair because it made me leave him. I loved him so much that I wasn’t accepting the ways the relationship didn’t work.
