@snobographer: Sure, perhaps. I think this is all a bit of a simplification of an interesting topic, but I see your point.

@CassandraSays: Haha. True. Neither of the reviews are very in depth. I also in particular wonder why "jailbait" is in quotes in the first place. I presume there's a significant reference to it in the film.
@CassandraSays: Yes. Though a reviewer never truly knows an artist's intentions, it is merely their job to frame their opinion of it. I would tend to agree, based on her recent decisions, that Ms. Fanning very much wants to transition into serious adult roles and away from films that use her conventionally as a child.
@CassandraSays: I agree with your assessment with one small caveat, Edelstein wrote that she's reveling in "playing" jailbait, not "being" jailbait. May seem like a small difference, but it's a quite important one. I do think it could be argued it would have been better to say she's reveling in playing a role in an…
@CassandraSays: If it were simply a movie about a girl in a band, I'd completely agree with you. But there are certain grey areas when talking about a band who actively played up the image of "jailbait" as a major part of their image and reputation. Part of what made The Runaways so fascinating in their time was the…
@Erda: At the time their audience was most definitely not just teens. They were the young chicks in the LA glam/punk scene and the majority of people that they hung out with, or performed for, were older than them. And obviously, they were assisted in forming together by a much older lecherous male - Kim Fowley - who…
@Erda: True, you could certainly see it like that. But The Runaways weren't just normal teen women becoming sexual in everyday life. They were teen girls flaunting it and monetizing it. It's bound to be a bit controversial. Anytime you do anything on a stage, at least part of you is doing so for the audience.
I'm sure I'm going to be horrifically disappointed in this film, but I love that its courting all the same outrage and furor over underage girls flaunting their sexuality as the actual band did 35 years ago. It's a meta-mindfuck that's enjoyable to watch, and it's probably the one way in which the film succeeds in…
@la.donna.pietra: Haha... I do love this ad, but to be fair - it's not really the original context either. The image first appeared in the BBC's documentary about the San Quentin show and aired in 1969. It's been iconic for decades. The use in this ad is quite fantastic though!
@MadameU: No worries. The photo can be flopped easy enough.
CBS should be "fined billions of dollars?" Hmm... I'd advise this person to hire Lindsay Lohan's lawyers as quickly as possible.
@morninggloria: Don't forget Giganotosaurus, the John Holmes of the Late Cretaceous era of filmmaking.
@tiredfairy: One of the greatest things about Los Angeles. Mexican Coke in just about every corner bodega. It's the only acceptable form of Coke to drink.
@Bonnie St. Clair (née macaronic): Although to be fair, I seem to remember in the Comedians Of Comedy movie, Zach laughing hysterically to himself over a fart joke.
@kitchy.poo: Fugees and Funyuns...
@Chrysocolla: I'm so tired of people bitching about Avatar...
@Holly Green: I still refuse to believe Stella was cancelled.
