also, they did make some refinements in going from FSI to TSI and over 200 hp in a FWD seems superfluous

They saved that refinement for the Golf R, same engine tuned up for 267bhp and 258lb ft. I'll tell ya what grinds my gears; that they replaced the 2.0t with the dull 2.5 i5 and killed the 4motion option in the Passat. Great that its assembled in the US and all but pity they had to dumb it down.
