I work in mental health, and based on the videos, this guy IN NO WAY meets the definition of psychotic. Angry, depressed, misogynist? Yes! But he is certainly not out of touch with reality. In addition, it's very difficult to hospitalize a person or force psychiatric medications on a person unless they demonstrate

This. If he had threatened to blow up a building but only succeeded in destroying the parking garage, no one would be saying "obviously the building wasn't the target".

I don't understand why guys like him act like this is a uniquely male problem. Women have it too. The guys we want often overlook us for better-looking women. Male strippers aren't lining up to buy me drinks. You can empower yourself by deciding what you're ultimately willing to do, and not willing to do, to get

Many issues for us men is that. Violence is not only normalized, but aggressiveness is considered a virtue. Emotionally opening up is demonized and all the pent up feeling and confusion goes somewhere, to some males it is work, some it is alcohol and to some it is violence. Apart from this being a virgin or someone

I got it from my Dad, then firmly shut it inside the closet... in the space I used to occupy.

He says the expulsion has made it impossible for him to start his job at a Wall Street firm

The only sign any bar should need:

This cat > Mitt Romney. In Jenga, but also in politics.

Can't a girl want to grow up to be an engineer and want to wear a tiara as well?

The "Have a Wonderful day!" part really adds a nice touch to the casual misogyny.

Aww Kim & Kanye are cute idgaf. It's funny, people keep talking about it being Kim's big day but a part of me feels like this was really Kanye's dream come true. I'm kind of elated for him. He married the girl of his dreams in a beautiful ceremony. Kind of beautiful to imagine how blissed out he must have been.

I just keep thinking: will they believe us now? Is this finally the moment when men start to grasp the reality that women live in?

My MRA impression is a little rusty but here goes: "He wasn't aiming at them, he was just trying to scare them. He didn't cause them as much psychological pain by shooting at them as they caused him by rejecting them. What a hilarious prank!"

Because I'm at work:

A thousand points to Gryffindor!

Isha, while I appreciate the focus brought on this hashtag, I think you're extremely wrong to characterize "everyday misogyny" as somehow distinct from the misogyny which fueled Rodger's machinations and eventually his killing spree.

You call it mental illness. I call it what it is - extreme misogyny. It goes beyond the subtle form that is often ignored - catcalls, groping, entitled sense of owning a woman's/girl's body, etc. One doesn't need to be mentally ill to express that violence. Call it what it is - hatred.

I love playing the "Oh, great! Are they going to be paranoid around me?" game with people who know I have mental illnesses! Totally makes my day!

Has any diagnosed illness been reported? I know everyone is diagnosing him from the comment sections of the articles, but the only thing I've seen is that his parents wanted to get him a therapist. If so, did that diagnosis have symptoms that would warrant giving this guy a free pass to be a raging misogynist, racist,

We Asians never wanted him, either.
