That’s a great idea. So many times I make a turn and have to guess what the limit is until I stumble across a sign. If I’m wrong and there’s a speedtrap and an artificially low speed limit, it could be an expensive ticket (or jail in Virginia).

The PBY Catalinas were/are such beautiful planes, much like Lockheed Constellations. I know they belong to a bygone era, but I wish some company would undertake production of (new) Catalinas with composite skin (to reduce weight and lessen corrosion) and modern engines.

Not quite. C-130’s fly just fine on 3 engines. Making a turn back to the airport with one inoperative is nowhere near impossible. Go to the national museum of the United States Air ForceForce at Wright Patterson afb, they have tacit blue and the yf-23 in their R&D hangar, along with an A-12. The hangar is moving to be connected with the main hangars soon, so check the timeline that you don’t visit while those planes are moving.

The aircraft is designed with a lift fan, to produce extra lift whilst the aircraft moves forward. A structure that helps channel oncoming air into the lift fan is very helpful. Rearranging that structure so that it pushes the air upwards instead would be less helpful.
