Just for fun. Just to compare two engines a little easier to see. Sometimes you want a rev happy engine (sports car) sometimes you want low end effortless smooth power with having to shift down (family hauler or luxury car). Just something to play with.

I wish there was better data available on cars. I would imagine a website or app that would allow you to compare one engine to another would be fascinating. You would need the full data curve to be able to do it, but imagine limiting the rpm to 4,000 RPM and comparing one engine vs another. The diesels start looking…

I used to put more faith in it, but I realized it wasn’t a great teller of speed either. The S2000 dyno is a fun one to play with because it so wild. 0 - 4,000 RPM it doesn’t look so hot, but I dont think too many people would argue it as a slow car.

Years ago I argued an engine’s power should be measured by power output (the area below the line to peak HP) rather than just peak HP. I sewing machine engine with a high peak and low mid will sometimes feel slower than something more grunt. See the S2000 compared to a Mustang. Not a perfect measurement either, but…
