I have heard a lot (mostly on Jalopnik and from gearhead friends “that know someone”) that they burn oil and will explode. If I were you I would definitely go with the N63TU updated setup. Other than the rings not seating properly and burning marginally more oil than other engines it has been great. I burn about 3/4…

When I got rid of the 550 I got a 650. The Meisterschaft exhaust makes it really sound good, but the exhaust on the old 550 had a better tone without any drone or other negatives. The 6 also has Meisterschaft’s electric bypass valves, but they did not work right since new - too tight and too harsh an environment.  

same engine, but in a 4 door. Under rated engine note. The new turbo version is too quiet even with open pipes.

sometimes this is a “feature” employed to save transmissions and increase EPA puckerism. I got rid of it on mine by installing a PedalBox. Try it.
