Agreed, but it’s so discouraging that he still felt he needed to say “he feared for his life” because of the “big girl” who appeared to not even have noticed him. It’s like it’s such a foolproof get-out-of-jail-free card that they use it even when they appear to have a good case otherwise.

The criminalization of black men is so complete that our own have internalized that shit. I don’t think the sister would have reacted the same way had it been a white man in the same outfit requesting the same kind of transaction. I hope Coogler sues Bank of America.

Thank you, Najeh.  That the above commenter used this as an opportunity to “be witty” is such an empathy fail.

Yeah, grieving mothers really should make sure their finance analogies are more apt, lest they get dragged in a comment section.

I don’t think she apologized at all, I think she was just describing the guilt she’s been made to feel by people who’ve projected their own bullshit onto her as a means of minimizing her accomplishments and discounting her right to a successful career in a particularly brutal industry. But we agree that she didn’t

That’s a solid truth. She wouldn’t be rejecting offers for very long because they would stop coming.

Agreed. I would understand turning down work to portray darker skinned people (whether a real life person, or a fictional character that was conceived of as being dark skinned,) but just turning down work generally? What would even be the schema for determining what to turn down (turn down every other offer; or every

I wonder if she ever considered turning those roles down in the first place”

Instead of apologizing for “taking roles” from darker-skinned actress, I wonder if she ever considered turning those roles down in the first place and suggesting one of her equally qualified, darker-skinned peers take her place instead.

Westworld star Thandiwe Newton is apologizing to darker-skinned actresses for the role her light skin has played in advancing her career, often at the expose of their own. (Yes, you read that sentence correctly. Read it again if you have to, then keep on because I’m just getting started.)

Meaning they expect her to have a slight accent thus the quotation “” marks.

I don’t understand the back lash. She’s a person of color thus the award. She’s from NYC thus the accent and attitude. Ya’ll never watched Nora from Queens or her YouTube videos? I think the people complaining want her to sound “Asian”?

Showed this to my wife. Her reaction was that I didn’t know the entire story and ppl are always attacking pastors.

she said she felt “constantly dehumanized” at the tech company.

Well, I asked what YOUR definition was. I don’t care about those nut jobs. The dictionary lays it out pretty plain, despite how it’s been interpreted as of recent. The conspiracies that have actually happened in American history and continue to happen, is what I’m referring to. I don’t need the government telling me

What’s your definition of a conspiracy?

Same old story. They did it to the original slaves. They did it to freed slaves. They did it to Native Americans. They did it to the Japanese.

Its more than just incompetence. Staff positions in these places actually attract the kind of people who fantasize about getting to have power over others. It's a real problem.

A group of people... murdered a child... over a FUCKING SANDWICH?!? Then they left his body sitting on the ground for 12 minutes before they called 911 and they are only getting charged with fucking manslaughter??? The whole judicial system needs to be torn down.

Not if the speech goes against the rules, creed, and conduct required of students. Yes, even a public school.
