Just tried this and it didn't work: so setting hi-res from gmail didn't come over on sync, still small. Great idea though. And it is hard to be mad at google since they did finally get maps past the iOS guard.

The idea of buying it somewhere cheap and getting it shipped to you is the way to go. I would even maybe do this from Amazon, don't have one, but sounds awesome.
