I don't know if this counts as hacking, but rubber bands are excellent for marking beer bottles/cans, kind of like a wine charm. In the same spirit, when a lot of people are staying over I use rubber bands to help them keep track of which water glass is theirs. I seem to have collected quite a few different rubber

no worries...

That's pretty great. I was going to back the Humn wallet, but thought it was pricey. This one is at a better price point for sure.

Reminds me of this http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jacksutter/tgt-tight-a-new-kind-of-wallet TGT wallet.

I think I figured this out and am kind of embarrassed: since it was a system sound, I was able to turn off email sound/vibrate notifications from within the sound settings. Seems to be working fine.

Only problem is that now I don't have a notification on the app icon (the unread number), which is pretty handy since I have the gmail app in my dock. Good idea though.

iOS question: How to stop getting double alerts from mail and gmail apps?

I just saw a bike with these on it and it was pretty awesome (and I would assume cheaper).

I think that's a really good point. For many people, coming home and watching some solid programming sans commercials is a great way to chill, learn some stuff, and have a shared experience with your loved one. That being said, I know I could probably watch less TV and look back on my days without a TV with longing.

So it will create an address book you can upload elsewhere, or will it actually make the contacts in your current gmail address book (sorry to be dense and/or lazy with this question)? Coming from an android device, that is where all of my contact info is, and it isn't anywhere else.

Hardware Question: What sort of NAS or SAN would I need to be able to have read/write speeds fast enough for something like video editing (so manipulating files on the NAS from a secondary computer)? To complicate matters, I have two computers that I want to have access to the same files (not concurrently), so I think

Good response btw. Something I should have mentioned was the difference between backup and archiving. I was approaching this from a true backup perspective and with the current tools, in my mind, versioning encompasses backup since if it disappears (you delete it or a hardware failure), you 'revert' to a previous

Sure.

Funny about the video, since I have heard copying certain things too much will reduce the integrity.

I had completely forgot about that, and that is perfect. Seriously.

This seems like anti-Lifehacker advice. Taking time to manage versions and copies of things, as opposed to setting up an automated system to accomplish this in the background, seems ridiculous to me.

Managing your Gmail inbox

I agree, but like others, would recommend a different registar... like http://www.name.com/ .

I was thinking this too the other day, since I had prepared a roasted chicken just by salting the outside http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/2012/03/roast-chicken . The only problem with forgoing a brine is that you can do some other things with liquid that you can't do with a rub (like using citrus and even maple
