so…you’re saying the family was “broadcasting its life in mass media” prior to the murder, and that’s why this child is dead?

there seem to be genuine lessons to learn from their story. Wondering what you are objecting to.
The father probably feels like he could be helping others by sharing his regret. I am not sure how much it will help, but if it makes him feel better in this awful time, why not?
This is severe depression/anxiety he has had for at least 2 years. My husband does not believe in mental health being an actual ‘thing’ so there’s NO support of any kind from him. So in addition to my two life-threatening illnesses/surgeries within 3 months (cancer, osteomyelitis), being fired, and caring for my other…
Spain is SUPER racist. They have neo-Nazis. They are usually one of if not THE worst chanters and throwers of shit at soccer matches. They had to start campaigns to tell people not be so racist.
Nah. I meant what I said. I was talking specifically about American men. It’s anecdotal but out of all of the men I’ve dated the non-American (Italian, German, French) ones have been the most comfortable talking about race and how it might affect the relationship we were having. In my experience American men are more…
I lived in Japan for a year, and I had a very similar experience. My best guess is that I wasn’t foreign enough to be interesting; at night, I got mistaken for Japanese sometimes. But yeah, white male Americans were just adored, at least in my area. My boyfriend visited for a week, and he had about three different…
I also deleted my OKCupid account after reading that article! Fuck OKCupid. :) In my experience it’s not that American men don’t find Black women attractive. Most American men are just unwilling to unpack their own racial bias when it comes to dating. I’ve had crushes that turned into friendships only to find out…
I can see how stereotypes might play into that. What I find is that many non-American men approach women like that in general. Most folks outside of the US are more direct and to the point. Doesn’t discount your experience. Just offering another point of view to consider.
IME, being an American is hardly exotic or even desirable to most Europeans. I couldn’t order coffee without someone informing me that my country sucks.
This is a well-written, thought-provoking article.
That seems like a remarkably sane approach. Too bad we’ll never see similar laws here in the US.
People: you can’t go reading an interview with John Waters and then complain that you’re offended. THAT’S HIS WHOLE SHTICK. Fucking deal or don’t read.
I just want my phone to know I care, okay?
Europeans make fun of us because everyone in America says “love you” after hanging up the telephone.
Well, that’s what it SHOULD be for, but on some campuses, the whole trigger warning trend is turning into something more, and is being used by some sheltered kids to avoid “uncomfortable” or “upsetting” topics.
“I want to make sure you understand that because anyone who laughs while having sex is schizophrenic.”
Best NYC/celebrity moment: Running into John Waters outside the building where they were casting Cry Baby: The Musical and him assuming I was auditioning based on my Betty Page bangs. #epiccompliment
Maybe check with the local hospital if they have any support groups for people with family members going through health problems. It is great that you are there for your mom, but you need people on your side too. Feeling isolated just makes an already hard situation even harder.
Sorry for the rough week! My Ciocia always says it as “fatty bobalatty”, so that’s how I say it too. She also came up with the brilliant term “eight to eighty pants”, which I’ve turned into “two to twenty pants”. They’re pants you wear so you can eat lot and they will fit you if you’re a size two, or if you’re a size…
