Is it?
Is it?
But if you re-read her descriptions, age is starting to have its way with her. Also, all those years she was busy crusading against women's rights — those were a lot of years. Like, more than three.
I had problems with that casting. I've been re-reading Handmaid's Tale, too, for…some reason…and every description of Serena is arthritic and knobby and at the VERY least peri-menopausal. And the argument that casting someone young in that role is edgy….nah. That isn't like "let's stage Hamlet! But in gangland…
Nothing will ever convince me Young Pope is worth watching.
In general I thought the show spent way too much time focusing on the mine and all the drama therein. Less is more with that kind of crazy story, and they reallly took their time there. Meanwhile we got hints of present-day characters, but not enough to understand them.
I watched that one too when it came out, and I was a bit annoyed by the overlap… Brit sitting in a circle, telling stories, asking for the unblinking faith of a group of people… but I do recall liking some of the characterizations in the movie, and that carried over here, too.
There's no reason he wouldn't have opened fire immediately on them. Especially since those moves take a while to have any effect.
ESTHER YOU NAILED IT! Sir James was a goddamn delight, and one of my favorite moments this year.
But does he kiss and tell about the Gilmore Girls!?
Oh, I absolutely think that's what happened. Also I don't think it occurs to Rory at this point to work in order to make a living.
Yeah. That line did not deserve a call-out at the end of the review, neither
I didn't say it was done well or that it was at all consistent. So much of this show is extremely inconsistent — character-wise, or with how various industries or well, how life works, in general.
I think part of it was supposed to be "wizened journalist!" Not to defend it.
That's exactly what I expected. Although tween me would have eaten this UP.
Also, every time I see a poster for this show, it looks like they're jumping on the Disney live-action reboot train, which seems endlessly tacky. Like haven't Elsa and Maleficent made cameos?
This is really helpful. I am so at a loss as to how this show is still on.
I've said this elsewhere, but the no pay made absolutely no sense. The paper wasn't getting shuttered due to a lack of funds, they simply hadn't been able to find a suitable editor (and didn't seem too worried about expanding the search or recruiting? …I dunno). So the idea that there was no salary, and that a woman…
She should definitely be way better at bullshitting by now.
I really felt like they were setting up Emily for dementia. Or some dark extra layer of denial where she just makes shit up to justify the strained relationship with Lorelai.
I like that he gets to relax occasionally around her, but I steel myself when she's on screen because I fully expect her to manipulate and hurt him, or just confuse him with the push-pull flirtation she keeps falling back on.
