*Much* better choice. And given that the first ever long-distance car trip was made by none other than Bertha Benz, M-B tends to treat women decently.

Not an infrequent occurance, unfortunately. I still remember my sister telling me about the salesman who insisted that cutting a hole in the roof of a car for a sunroof wouldn’t affect the structural inegrity of the car in any way...

It’s easy to do-I’ve accepted that I’m now ‘the crazy old Mercedes lady’.

Like I said, Dad was an old German guy & a car nut. Neither of his daughters left his household without extensive driver training (he & Mom taught us because “driver’s ed doesn’t teach you enough”) including not just driving a stick but things like double-clutching, a good general knowledge of how everything in &

I’ll take “Women Who Make Me Cringe” for $1000, Alex......

Honestly? In my experience, the women actually there for the cars aren’t usually the ones dressed like that. We’re the ones in old jeans and ratty sneakers, with no makeup and our hair just back in a ponytail (who cares, just get it out of the way.).

Doing it right FTW. :)

Agree with everything except this:

True Children of the ‘80s remember tha Jazz was originally based on the Porsche 935 “Moby Dick”...

That right there is why I don’t think it’s completely beyond the realm of possibility that within the next 2-3 years we might see Alonso switch to Indycar, particularly if he has a good month if May.

Two words: international audience.

And so does Andretti Autosport..... If anybody knows how IMS can deliver nasty surprises, it’s Michael Andretti....

Not to mention the weather today is lousy-cold & windy here. If anyone remembers what it was like for the Indy GP last year, it’s pretty much the same. Nasty conditions under which to get to known the track.

Okay, I know, Alonso’s a 2-time World Champion, etc....

Oh, believe me, I have-many, many, many times.....

I can kind of understand... They had a 7 year old and a baby, and Porsche had quit making the 356, so they were already becoming collector’s items. The red hardtop was pristine; it’s a collector’s car in CA now and has had less than 5,000 miles put on it since we sold it in the early ‘70s.

A down payment on a house is one of the viable reasons for selling an old M-B, especially with kids in the picture. :) And don’t worry, mine did worse: sold their pair of 356s & got a pair of Pintos instead.

Father of the Year right there.

I’m with your son. Don’t you know a vintage Mercedes is meant to be a family heirloom?

Un-hunh. So you’d rather condemn a child to a life of struggles, misery, and near-poverty because of “irresponsible fucking”.
