You must be male, a hot chick, or somebody’s girlfriend. Uh, no. My father was simply a pragmatic German who also happened to be a car guy. When he ended up with daughters instead of sons, he just decided it really didn’t make a difference.

Oh, Lord, you’re torturing me. This is *exactly* what I’m looking for, only a few years from now. Sheer torture. This *is* my midlife crisis car.

Reminds of a tale I heard from a fellow marshal years ago... Supposedly, there was a couple of corner workers up at Road America who always had a rubber chicken on display at their station. During one race, no less a personage than Johnny O'Connell had a off at their station but was utterly mystified as to the

You want to have some fun sometime, ask a corner marshal about spec racer Fords...... The surf 'n' turfs were always good for an interesting session back when I was working.....

My experiences are mostly on the O'Hare (Chicago) to Munich route and back. LH usually runs $100 -$200 more than the comparable US-based airlines, but the first checked bag is free, which usually covers the difference. Add to that clean planes in good condition, comfortable seats that my big butt fits in and leave

Lufthansa is excellent, even in economy, and the FAs, while not the overly friendly US-type, have always been unfailingly polite, helpful, and efficient. I'm often travelling on a tight budget, but the Slightly higher ticket price for Lufthansa has always been money very well spent.

I agree, with one exception-it would be really nice if, say, when showing a tape-delayed event like an F1 race, the broadcaster would avoid announcing the results in the "ticker" at the bottom of the screen. I can avoid the internet, but showing me the results during pre-race is a tad annoying...

What kind of moron pulls into the passing lane and then immediately hits the brakes? True, the Civic never should have made the lane change, but I'd put most of the blame here on the red Saturn.

I feel like this ought to get a mention.... back in the early '50s, Mercedes-Benz built this "Schnelltransporter" for use by their F1 team. (This is a rebuilt replica in the Museum; the original was sadly destroyed after M-B pulled out of racing in '55.)

How on earth did you leave off the 356, let alone the 911????? The second is an icon, and the first built the largest single-marque car club in the world.

Speaking as someone very familiar with sewing and tailoring (my mother made her own wedding dress, complete with a train that converted to a bustle), there is some extra cost in making bigger sizes. Just the fabric alone can easily add a few dollars to an item. Fabric is surprisingly expensive

Perhaps this might be more your sort of thing?

A) Is it wrong that I have a soft spot for the Trabi? It's just kinda awesome in its inherent suckiness. B) Is it even more wrong that I adore Rally Trabi? Serious points for the Subie-esque livery......

Seconded..... I nearly filled a memory card in my camera taking pics of it at the Porsche museum.

Ah, but the tale of his (and his family's) misfortunes at IMS could be a movie in and of itself. He made 29 starts, but only finished 4 times.

For the large majority of the car-buying public, you are absolutely correct. I was just explaining to a friend the problem with buying a used luxury/exotic last night; simply put, most people who buy an older Mercedes/Porsche/BMW/etc. *don't know what they're getting into*. They expect the maintenance and repair

Another part of my childhood disappears.... We had a place on a lake in southern Indiana that just happened to be next to the Camp Atterbury range. My Saturday morning alarm clock was these guys and F-4 Phantoms buzzing the house. I'd spend weekend afternoons sitting out on our paddleboat watching these guys

THANK YOU. I *wish* my parents had the same viewpoint. We were not a "touchy-feely" family to begin with, so dealing with those who were was awkward at best. But I was also cursed with natural very light blonde hair. The first thing every adult did upon meeting it was paw at it extensively. When I complained, I

Honestly? The Audi TT.

Proud owner of a 1988 260E (W124) here. It's an inline 6, not a V8, but God, I love this car. Gas mileage isn't bad (about 17/22 mpg city/highway), not super from 0-60, but boy, get up about 80 mph or more and does it shine.
