“The word [woolbetter? warburton? wubbettle?] does not appear even once in the US Constitution” What the hell is the word? I don’t know American legislative court cases from the 1970s (I’m foreign). What kind of terrible delivery has that be the word fudged over? It’s the only word you can’t figure out from context in

I think they mean it’s hard to tell from the trailer what era the movie is set in. Like it’s clear what AGE she is, but unless you know what age RBG is now and when she was in law school, it’s not very easy to tell from the trailer that it’s supposed to be the 50s/60s/70s. Most of the costuming is quite neutral

Also if you’re interested in doing a specific research project, look into postgraduate programs (especially ones abroad, if you’re in the States, you can get a PhD in three years in Ireland, and there are some decent funding options). Sociology would open into any social sciences and possibly humanities schools:

It makes complete sense that you’re feeling anxious, that’s a LOT. It really sucks that your support people bailed on you; is there any one of them (or anyone else) that you could phone and explain how much a little help would mean to you right now? Possibly they bailed cause they thought you got this? Or possibly

I also don’t speak Spanish but “Juan Taco es un pseudónimo terrible” transcends language barriers and is a wonderful, powerful sentence.

Also, it bears repeating, it is LEGAL to present yourself at a border and ask for asylum. Which is what a lot (not all, but many) of these people/families are doing. It is ILLEGAL to do what my people do; go over on visa waiver for a “holiday” and talk yourself into a job at a bar. But my people are gleamingly white

What about repeatedly and loudly call them out, and actually enforce sensible harassment policies (so possibly fire them if they contravene anti-harassment rules from here on out), and withhold the “reconciliation” until they demonstrate they understand and show remorse?

You don’t have to bring it up formally or ask anything, you could just bring her up casually with him, either like “so-and-so is great, I was chatting with her recently and we were really hitting it off” or “hey do you see much of so-and-so these days?” and just see how he reacts? Best case, he goes “oh hey you know yo

I’m going dry for July, or planning to. I don’t have problems really with alcohol but I do get a lot of anxiety and also heart palpitations. Giving up caffeine helped HUGELY (and I didn’t even drink that much caffeine to begin with!) so I’m going to see what giving up alcohol does. I already cut back a lot though, so

Having just come through the campaign to legalise abortion in Ireland, the two most useful messages I can give American pro-choice campaigners are firstly, tell your stories if you can, and secondly, take care of one another. But many of you already know those things, because you’ve been fighting this whole time

I unironically love that blue dress (IT LOOKS LIKE WIZARD ROBES) and I hate what it’s been reduced to.....

People don’t (say they) care, but people unconsciously (a) think taller people are more competent (and their idiot brain thinks this even if they consciously know you’re wearing heels) and (b) think a woman in heels is properly dressed up. I stopped wearing heels (and make up) for several years, and I started again,

I really enjoyed this book, and Amandla Stenberg is so perfect for this role!

You’re welcome! I hope your nephew gets on well. Having an uncle who isn’t an assholes involved and supportive will be really good for him, I’m sure! The main thing is to listen and believe him, and respect his decisions and how he presents himself. And hopefully you and I and he will all see that kinder, less binary

Thank you for posting that. I hadn’t seen it but I heard about it. She apologised for it on Twitter, basically saying her one job is to be able to read things live on air, but I couldn’t blame her in the slightest. I think she was really professional and brave to try as hard as she obviously did, and equally

You might have already figured this out, as it’s been covered in other comments down here, but just in case: being trans (being a gender other than the gender assigned to you based on your external genitalia at birth) is not a disease, or a mental health problem, or anything “wrong”, some people are just trans and

Also it doesn’t do shit to reunite the families already separated or to help the kids currently in these concentration camps.

Physically go to radical human rights / immigration / Latinx groups in your area and/or in areas near the concentration camps. There must be people thinking the same way, but it’s the kind of thing that gets decided at closed in-person meetings.

Lin Manuel Miranda’s celebrated Broadway hip-hop/rap musical Hamilton: An American Musical tells me that Eliza Hamilton née Schuyler founded the first private orphanage in New York City. Don’t know if she’d be my first choice but I’d add her to the list.

I am Irish and therefore inherently anti-monarchy but I will stan for Liz II forever and ever if she stabs him.
