I’m in the middle of rewatching Rome for the third or fourth time and wholeheartedly agree. James Purefoy is probably my favorite--his Antony is truly perfection--but I also cannot see anyone else as Caesar or Cleopatra after that show.

I’m halfway through mine! Things ended poorly for Caesar last night. Because of that rewatch, as soon as I saw this headline, all I could think was, “You’re not going to find a better Mark Antony than Rome had.”
Yikes. I really enjoy Richard Dormer as an actor and try to keep an eye out for his new projects, but this looks aggressively awful. And I’m a fairly casual Pratchett fan, so it’s not like some changes would offend me on principle.
I didn’t get around to watching it until this summer and only did so after rewatching the entire series. It’s sloppy, for sure, but it’s nowhere near as awful as people made it out to me to be. I think the show would have benefited from more episodes/a longer season to flesh out the storylines, but I didn’t have a…
Agreed. I found that bewildering. Makes me think the person didn't actually watch the show, especially after the midpoint of season 1, since POI is one of the least network shows that was on network TV over the past 10 years.
Me too, and I was like, that’s not how Cheers is spelled. . . . My bad.
100% agree! What part of NC are you from, if you don’t mind my asking? I’m from Hendersonville, though my folks are from Madison and Yancey.
Yeah, that irritated me too. I live in Arkansas and am from North Carolina originally, so I have a fair amount of exposure to the genre because it’s popular with my family and friends. I’m not a country music fan, per se, but there’s some good stuff in the genre. I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess Barsanti couldn’t…
Having read his articles for years now, I’m pretty sure Barsanti has no clue how snark works. I can peg them as his before I even read the byline. Hughes is the next-worst offender.
Yep. I’d venture to say whatever was shot there could easily have been omitted or shot elsewhere with no impact on the production.
I was reading a NYT article that said the bulk of the movie was filmed in New Zealand and filming in China was really only for background shots and that what was filmed in Xinjiang was about a minute of footage that represented a week of filming. And apparently nobody during production over voiced any concerns. It is…
For reasons I will never understand, I recently watched Cats. That’s a lot of preamble to say your comment made me laugh my ass off.
Very cool! It’s really fun trading notes with another election worker. I’ve not had the observers (probably because we are so rural), though we do get trained to deal with them.
Yep, I don’t think anyone realizes how much stuff is going on behind the scenes to make sure everything is done correctly. I certainly didn’t. We also do the tallying during lulls to make sure the number of ballots issued exactly matches the number in the vote tabulating machine. It’s one of my obsessions, and several…
I work as a poll worker and am equally baffled. All of the right-wing conspiracy theories about voting tells me that none of them have ever volunteered to work an election and are completrly clueless to basic election procedure. If any of these idiots request a mail-in ballot and then return it, they will come up in…
I’m really sorry about your friend. That’s terrible.
Yeah, I can imagine that was a terrible shock to his collaborators, but I don’t at all blame him for wanting to keep the diagnosis quiet. Even if Disney would have been decent about it (and I have my doubts), I imagine he didn’t want to deal with all the intrusive media coverage once his diagnosis was publicized.
Oh wow—yes, you’re right! I guess copyeditor isn’t a job title at the AV Club.
I’m not even a Star Wars fan, but even I know it’s spelled Anakin and not Annakin. I know typos happen, but it’s misspelled every single time in the post.
Quarantine hair isn’t doing him any favors either. That was the first thing that caught my eye. “What is on Conan’s head--oh.”
