That makes sense!

Thanks!

Oh okay!

No worries! I'm okay with things looking dated. :)

I'm not familiar with Sliders, but I just looked it up and it sounds amazing! Thanks for mentioning it! :)

I really liked Ned—thought he was a fascinating character. I would support a Ned spinoff, a Highlander legal procedural with political elements, ala The Good Wife.

True, it's likely he didn't believe her. I got the impression, though, that he wouldn't do anything differently, even if what she said was true. I should rewatch that scene!

Yeah, it's such a complex issue. And of course for every point one could make for the alternate history being bad, you can't rule out that it could be successful. Definitely no easy answers! I think it's the unforeseen ones that make me the most nervous.

I haven't read the second book, so I don't know how that scene compares with the show. But I did recently read the first book, and I must confess, I didn't think the character came off well in it at all.

I think it's one time he'd gladly rip the shirt off to show his scars.

I've tried wondering what I would do in Claire's situation, and even though it would be painful, I think I'd still err on the side of warning them but also not trying to change history. But Claire is also a very different person than me.

Oh man. I laughed harder than I should have at my own mental image of this conversation.

Oh yeah I can see why she tried to warn them away from it. As I mentioned elsewhere here, I wasn't a big fan of the book, but some of the parts I found the most haunting are when she tells Jamie about Culloden and also when she warns Jenny about the future. I also liked those parts in the show.

Amen! I may not make a good protagonist for a show/book about time travel, but I prefer the quiet life.

Her recklessness bothers me too, but it doesn't irritate me as much as the teenage "Nobody has suffered as much as me!"

Yeah that was my thinking. I have some philosophical issues with trying to alter the course of history, but I have no problem with time travelers using history to their advantage—know where to go to avoid the wars and what to invest in.

I can't figure out if the writing is just inconsistent or if that's how we're supposed to view her, but she does seem to have quite the disconnect between how she treats patients and how she treats other people.

Agreed about her being sympathetic to what she can see/is informed about—I keep thinking of the "changeling" baby too.

This is really a problem I have with Claire in general. I hated her in the book and didn't care for her much in the first season either. I really like Balfe as an actress and think she does a good job with the character, but I have a hard time liking Claire because she's so dismissive to everyone else. (I thought it

Agreed! I went to Pitch Perfect not knowing who she was and not expecting to like the movie. Ended up enjoying the movie for what it was but found her relentlessly irritating. That "You'll Miss Me When I'm Gone" scene is like nails on a chalkboard for me, and I can't even really explain why.
