“...black people in America need continually focus attention on being ready to defend themselves from the never-ending white supremacist goal of instituting a neo-Jim Crow in this country...”

I think of it in the same way you do but with a more philosophical approach as to why. It’s the question of the naturalistic fallacy - how can we say things will be better on the other side if we’ve never seen the other side? Therein lies the fear for white America. Like you said, no one has ever seen a day in America

Unkillable, inexhaustible and always saving this godforsaken shit-show from turning into a tragedy.

Who said anything about being satisfied? I clearly stated that complacency is part of the problem but you know what is the major problem, the biggest road block to equality in America?

In fifty-three years, two generations, we should have made more progress. Two generations have lived without full equality, without the opportunity to live their best lives. Two generations have been over-policed and drug-warred into prison.

All the change we got?

[just so we’re clear: this post is responding to “ilikeseasonings”]

And like, I get the point, you never see movies with 38 year-old women dating 22 year-old men (unless that was the plot of one of the Sex and the City movies, I legitimately don’t know), but show more of that, not less of this.

Yes, they did. Good memory.  One of the first things on the Trump Sessions to-do list in 2017 was to get white nationalist domestic terrorists taken off the counter-terrorism watch list.

The polygraph claim has effectively made up my mind about this, and it’s not in Fisher’s favour. There’s nothing to ask him about while hooked up to a polygraph because there are no concrete details about what his claims are. No one doubts that he hates Whedon and Johns and Hamada and won’t work with them. But there’s

Naveed Jamali has been putting a lot of calls in to his contacts at state police to see where there may be terrorist sympathizers or insurrectionists.

Yup, turn it into a of week of civic duty, with polling and information stations set up and one or two paid days off not connected to the weekend meant specifically to educate then vote. Perhaps even with some sort of tax break for eligible voters who voted.

OK, I lol’d.

Word!” to your edit. When I read the first paragraph of this piece, I was like “Luh you Monique, but who didn’t see this coming? (besides white people?)” Even multiple other writers on The Root have started their recent posts in the vein of “We told y’all so...”

You do know that Puerto Ricans come in all races?

Ooohho the backpedalling, the scrambling, the ‘Rules for thee not for me’, the I wasn’t in charge when that happened’! Ya just love to see it.

Your RAFWA shows in your us vs them language, you don’t seem to be bothered that the US Capitol was taken over for hours by magats.

That’s like me saying, hours after sunset, that there’s no indication the sun will rise in the morning. I am so damn sick of grown ass adults making childish excuses. Too many of those Capitol cops are MAGAts who lack the courage of their conviction to admit it effected their actions as they let their comrades in

Yeah, the Capital Police are still saying they had no indication that there might any violence on Wednesday. Despite news outlets, the DoD, the DoJ, and various local police agencies having come forward saying “we told them violence was likely and they needed to prepare for it.”

Those flimsy barricades weren’t even bolted down! Many of them weren’t wearing helmets. Totally the opposite of what we experienced during the summer protests when we were confronted by militarized cops outfitted for battle.
