Nah, nah son. If Rock didn’t know about Jada’s condition, the joke was a dud because a quite a few women chose to rock a shaven head look, especially black women and are generally strong in personality, at least the ones I know, so the joke was flat to me. If Rock did know, then it was in bad taste, but not worth

You’re definitely not! That is not a normal progression of moods, and that’s also why his apology doesn’t feel particularly remorseful. You can’t say 24 hours after the fact that you’re ashamed when there is photographic and video evidence of you partying it up without a care in the world two hours after you assaulted

I get it. I love my wife and want to defend and protect her. But sometimes, as an adult, the right thing to do is step aside and do nothing.

Yeah, a lot of folks seem to think her condition is common knowledge. I don’t know how you can say for sure that Chris Rock knew it. I just don’t think he would knowing make a joke about someone’s medical condition. He just doesn’t seem like that kind of guy and I can’t recall him doing it previously.

I’ve seen so many responses that are like “Jokes should never be insulting or at someone’s expense!” but... that’s a huge function of (especially political) humor? You can’t punch the king, but you can make fun of him. And while people may be very willing to extend that rule to JPS, I highly doubt they’re going to

Jada has always seemed much tougher emotionally than Will, which is not to say he’s weak just more sensitive. This incident really demonstrated that. She rolled her eyes and was over it. He had an emotional outburst and embarrassed himself in front of several hundred million people.

Okay I was trying and failing to explain to my mom last night why it was so weird that his moods went from happy to physical assault and anger then back to happy so rapidly.

Jokes at Jada’s expense are also part of her job. It was a shitty joke, but if you, Will Smith, are capable of handling jokes about yourself without needing someone to publicly and violently defend your honor, maybe assume your wife is at least as capable as you are in that regard.

But a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear

Frankly put, the Academy needs to put disqualification on the table for this incident.

Maybe it was because it was SO public

Yes, he is obviously full of remorse.  All those pictures at the after-parties...his singing and dancing to “Gettin’ Jig Wit It” was filled with remorse.

Yeah, I got like five different instances of whiplash from Smith’s behavior, and that was just as scary as the assault. That he could swing so wildly from controlled to raged out to controlled again was scary. Going out to a party afterwards and acting like nothing happened, that’s some psycho shit right there.

I know it was their “Big” night last night but these people need to be reminded they are just Actors. Not firemen, Not Soldiers. Not Nurses or Doctors. Not teachers. Not leaders of a democracy under assault. They get paid a shit ton of money to dress up and play pretend. So one of these narcissistic aholes

But really, the jibe comparing a haircut to a 25 year old film is what causes him to assault someone.

Thank you! Love didn’t “make” you do shit--YOU chose to make a huge jackass of yourself, Will.

I’ve defended my wife in public. Not once did it risk becoming physical. Smith comes off like a lunatic here, especially since his first reaction was to laugh at the joke.

I also got strong Kanye vibes from this situation.

“Love makes you do crazy things” - every man who’s ever physically abused a woman.

Chris Rock making a joke a the expense of a black woman and her hair in one of the whitest spaces to be in on national television is weird.
