There’s a theory that the wight kidnap was also to get the White Walkers a way to bring down the wall on the show - i.e. Viserion. The show has omitted all of the mystical wall-breaking methods seen in the books. Dany might not lose Viserion in the books if they have the walls come down in a different way.
