I’ve seen a disturbing amount of “pick a side,” or “if you aren’t actively condemning Nazis then you’re one of them” opinions on this site. That’s a real position that many Giz writers and readers share. I was relieved to read an article that DIDN’T push that position, so I expressed that relief.

It seems like most of these spend significant amounts of time outside NYC. I think you meant “Marvel Superheroes Who Are BASED in New York City.”

I think you mean, “left wingers.” Mitt Romney was just as moral as McMullin and the left still manufactured a narrative that he was evil. McMullin would face the same treatment.

Apparently, there’s a running joke that Jezebel writers constantly get comments like, “this article wasn’t terrible like all the others.” Our shock at a reasonable description of Nazi activity on Gizmodo reminds me of those reactions.

Darmok at Tanagra. His arms open.

That sweeping generalization is exactly my point. The world isn’t so simple. There is no way a statement that broad can be taken seriously.

In fairness, it’s tough to spot a Nazi when they aren’t holding a flag or marching together. And I think that’s what is going on. They’re trying to identify people when their actions aren’t obvious. Thing is, that’s really hard to do accurately. So you see a lot of people on the Left willing to make compromises on

I blame Indiana Jones. The Nazis are just too perfect at being villains.

Matt, I expected this was going to be a list of things regular conservatives do, but that you were casting as Nazi behavior, but No. I agree with this list. These are pretty squarely within the realm of what Nazis do. I appreciate that you didn’t try to turn this into a bifurcated argument of “anyone who doesn’t do

As funny as the rowing line was, it bothered me a bit that the writers tossed that in. No way GRRM has Davos saying that, which means it was completely a nod to internet memes. Most people don’t watch the show to see the writers pat themselves on the back for being meta.

Of course not. It’ll be 8 b/c they’re bringing back a dead guy.

All money is based on trust. You trust that a $20 bill will work at the burrito vendor because you trust the US government to penalize the burrito vendor if they refuse to accept it. You could certainly have “real” digital currencies, but their acceptance would need to be enforced in some trustworthy manner. Right

I don’t think the status as a colony is the concern here. We’re more concerned about the people there - many of whom are US citizens.

It’s probably worth drawing a distinction between “bigger” problems and “more common” ones in this topic. Your example is a much more likely scenario, but at the end of the day, it’s something many people will just accept and move on from. Scenarios like falsifying crime scene info, or intentionally mis-identifying

Fess up: was there already a “Where geckos live” map, or did you make that yourself? And if you made it, could you please cite your source material? This is the internet after all. There’s a certain level of quality you need to uphold.

Yeah. I’ve heard better apologies.

I hope you don’t work for Google, Matt.

Dany’s use of the dragons is so asymmetric that it cuts into our sympathy for her

I can’t believe some of you still think Euron is going to be anything more than a weak copy of Ramsay on the show. He may be ball-awesome insane in the books, but there simply isn’t time left on the show for him to steal this much attention for himself. He will probably end up being about as fierce as the Mountain...
