whether Supergirl is worth watching past S1 depends on what you’re looking to get out of it.

you would think SO MANY THINGS, but enjoying Supergirl frequently meant not thinking through what they were doing.

the temporary part is an improvement, but it’s explicitly done because people might ignore Kara if they’re left the choice! it’s real bad.

For such a “liberal” show, the whole “let’s invade people’s mind, shut down their defense mechanism so they can listen to our message” was quite unsettling ..to say the least.

Cat Grant revealed she knew to the audience in that ep years ago- it’s right after Kara is out of earshot that the audience hears Cat say, “go get ‘em, Supergirl.”

they spent the whole 100th episode explaining how the world would burn if she’d told just one person her secret identity sooner, then the whole penultimate episode of the series showing how dangerous it is when villains target Kara’s loved ones, THEN THEY DECIDED TO TELL ALL THE VILLAINS EVERYWHERE EXACTLY WHO HER…

there’s something empowering about watching Supergirl get to end on its own ambitiously unambitious terms.

that’s what makes the show’s writing/choices so frustrating. every once in a while they do something right and she knocks it out of the park, then they go back to sidelining her or making unspeakably stupid choices and you’re reminded how much potential the show wasted all over again.

the one unifying reaction to the Dear Evan Hansen movie was that Ben Platt absolutely cannot play a teenager!

yep. Sara is clever and quick-witted but there’s absolutely nothing in the Arrowverse suggesting she’s book-smart. it’s nice characterization in a TV landscape that tends towards genius creep whenever a show wants a character to know something for plot reasons.

there are so many times watching Supergirl where something, from a small detail about how jobs or buildings work to a large plot/thematic thing like Kara’s friggin’ mom being resurrected, makes me just want to shake the screen and tell the writers to think for 2 seconds about the things they write. this show…

personally I enjoyed the Tracy Jordan bits more than anything I tried on the platform, so me.
