yeah, I thought they made some sort of strategic conservative decision because Norway looked great through the first half, then great for times between the 1-1 tie and the red card (after which of course they looked better).
+1 on Norway controlling the first half. I thought they made a strategic mistake and let up some/got more conservative after they took the 1-0 lead; I think if they’d kept attacking they were likely to get a second and dodge OT altogether.
Yes, absolutely dumb from Kennedy. and absolutely worth yellow, just disagree with the red.
There was a long VAR check in the first half that I actually thought they got right- harsh handball called on the field that was overturned because it was really a deliberate tit ball.
They called a stupid DOGSO even though the Norwegian was never going to beat Lydia Williams to the ball.
It was funny to watch the announcers try to describe it, but that was a tit ball.
Let’s just stick some 16-year-old that’s not going to take a penalty in the game with a minute to go, fuck intelligent substitution strategy...
Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh, my Aussies.
Cat Whitehill is, somehow, as terrible at broadcasting as she was at defending.
haven’t tried comparing 2011 to 2019 yet, but I did watch 2007 clips during the 2015 tournament and see an enormous difference then.
They even write a little (R) next to the rest-of-season projections so readers don’t do exactly what the author did here.
Bench Dahlkemper, Ertz back to CB, let the Lavelle/Horan/Mewtwo midfield wreck shit.
I didn’t understand the Huerta FB experiment at all. It felt like they grabbed a random NWSL winger and decided she was fast so they could totally try her as a fullback. Dunn at least played defense for college and the youth NTs.
yeah, I realize you could get alcohol poisoning by drinking every time they mention that Naeher’s not You-Know-Who, but it really is new and important information that we might have keeper problems. at least she got to make a save today and Sweden couldn’t capitalize on the vulnerabilities yet.
that game had me less worried about people getting in behind Dunn than about her bizarrely central play against Swedish breakouts.
I don’t know if they changed the offside wording or if it’s just a fluke that two pretty similar plays happened in the same tournament group stage. when we were arguing about it after Australia-Brazil I couldn’t actually see a letter in the law to point to for the offside callback, but it’s so obviously in violation…
We already saw this in Australia-Brazil with Monica’s own goal. Monica only played that ball because of offside Kerr lurking; somehow that isn’t considered to impact the play, so the goal stood. The Swede only plays the ball because of offside Lloyd lurking; somehow that isn’t considered impacting the play, either, so…
holy fuck holy fuck holy fuck
From the headline I thought this would be an article about the teams that keep handing jobs to Tom Sermanni.
