I’m down to exactly a 8' x 10' piece of lawn to keep the animals happy. The rest of my yard has been converted to southwestern, using native plants, gravel and other physical attributes.  I was ready for the water rationing years ago.

Only so much storage and no where else to build more.  Some water is inevitably going to find its way back to the ocean.

Perhaps it’s time to make covers mandatory, having a practical use of preventing evaporation, accidental drownings and even retaining heat, pushing the use period longer.
