There are already independent repair shops popping that specialize in battery rebuilds.  The motor control electronics are just high current motor controllers like others that have been used in industry for decades.  Easily repaired.

Not even an issue, future battery replacement that is. You don’t remember the cellphone market in the early 90s, do you? Those Ni:Cd batteries were good for 4-6 months maximum. Replacement batteries for the Motorola flip were about $70. Then the ‘generic’ battery suppliers stepped up with the $30 version. The same…

A strong and healthy middle class (all workers, not just tech) means long term stability for the economy and the country. Anything that leads to this condition is be pursued strongly.  There's the argument for unions. 

North SF Valley to Westside is what, 25 or 30 miles? People forget how big the greater LA area is. When you’re coming into LAX from the east, you’re flying over wall to wall ‘civilization’ for about twenty minutes or so.  That area, as seen from 20,000 feet up, is the commute radius for people in the region.
