This just shows you how isolated in their little bubble these people are. This guy clearly doesn’t know any trans people in real life; they are just some boogey-men out there that he imagines looks like John Cleese in a dress and acts like a sex-crazed lunatic. Faced with an actual, real-life trans person who just

The only moral abortion is my abortion. The only time I do not insult Obamacare is when my insurance is cut. The only time I promote gay rights is when my child comes out to me.

How can anyone be this stupid? Caitlyn isn’t the only one surprised by this! Other people are too! Why? How could anyone be surprised? It’s lead poisoning, isn’t it? We as a nation are paying the price for it, aren’t we? If you care about LGBT issues (on the side of not hating people for no reason), you vote for the

Watch Shark Tank sometime - a lot of the pitches are predicated on people having existing demand that they’re unable to meet with their current production abilities and resources. Situations like this also seem pretty common in fashion.

I read the Daily Mail article (cringe), and while they knew Kate Middleton was a fan, she wasn’t a big fashion icon until the engagement. The designer had no idea that Middleton would wear the dress in the announcement. The designer even mentioned that she could have bought it at a shop, not directly from the

It seems like Kate’s dress might have been “off the rack” and that there was no agreement in place before the boom hit.

This is actually incredibly common for smaller brands who find themselves with surprise hit (ETA: Kate bought this dress off the rack—Issa didn’t know about it until pics hit the news; this was not a commission). If you have a ton of people who want to place orders, yet you have no way to fill those orders because you

YES. There’s so much wealth privilege here it’s unbelievable. It must be really fucking nice to just leave the country every time someone disagrees with you, but most of us live in the real world and can’t do that in practice. And for someone who starts out saying she doesn’t want to name names, she sure seems to

I think this is an excellent summation of the larger argument.

I hate capitalism, but I’m not in a privileged enough position to try and tear it down.

So much damn agreement with this entire thread.

That’s so sweet and wonderful :) Thank you!

To me it always feels like kind of a classist look at things. For many people, myself included, the reason you remain complicit with capitalism is because you and those who depend on you literally have their lives on the line. I hate capitalism, but I’m not in a privledged enough position to try and tear it down.

Yup. I think there are a couple issues here:

I think the point being made is that the capitalist system is inherently designed to keep people down and to do damage to them. By attaching this sort-of “empowerment” lens on what amount to personal minutiae we’re doing a huge disservice to the larger issues of actual equality and parity.

I’m in a good mood and this interview pissed me off. I got married for things like health insurance and inheritance purposes, should I have forgone health insurance on the matter of principle?

My therapist once told me that everything I did didn’t have to be for the cause. She was a smart woman and all of her advice served me well, so I’m gonna go with her on that one.

Do you think it’s possible to be a feminist and not devote every action of your life to feminism?

All of this. Her critique of Steinem based on her boyfriends is really petty and superficial.

It must be nice to be the only person doing feminism right.
