HTML5 cannot deliver true streaming content yet only progressive download. Live and VOD content via protocols like HLS on Windows require the Flash container. Browsers need to integrate HLS streaming or settle on MPEG-DASH.

This is a far better solution; however, people at my work are still dumb enough to just click to enable the video because, “I just gotta see that kitten get hugs.” It makes me sad that you can’t teach common sense.

But HTML5 players in IE, Chrome & Firefox still do not support HLS streaming. The only option on the Windows side to accomplish this is a Flash container. Browsers need to either support HLS or settle on MPEG-DASH for live and VOD streaming content (not progressive download content).

Because there isn’t a solid method for delivering live or VOD, streaming videos (not Progressive Download) without Flash on anything other than MacOS or iOS.
