I'm siding with Rocio. I'm a lapsed Iowan who is married to a Minnesotan. It's (c)casserole, thank you very much. You can keep your hot dish, commercials, and Duck Duck Gray Duck up north where they belong.

You know what's fun about voting in Oregon? I get to have a voting party, drink wine, discuss the issues, slap a stamp on my ballot, and I get to do this in my pajamas.

I'm simultaneously working on a sexy novel (AKA a period romance novel) and Big Sur. One of them is much more mentally stimulating than the other.

Thank you for posting this. He-Man's version is the best!

I'm not sure, Ulrika maybe? She was there for 12 years - late 80s through the 90s - eight as a camper and four as a counselor/staff. She still makes a mean rouladen.

My husband attended the Japanese immersion camp up there, and my sister-in-law was a fellow German camper. I'll have to ask them both if they remember this story.

You should check out Dead Can Dance. There's always been a major disconnect for me between Brendan Perry's voice and the way he looks - kind of like Paul Kangas from Nightly Business Report.

Well, except that it's pretty unsafe due to the rounded edges on the seat of the high chair. If anyone bumps into them, they'll tip over. My old restaurant had something like these flip-top chairs. The chair part folds out and the uprights are designed to fit car seats.

Yes, please! There are a lot of cool ladies in the mathematics education realm that should be celebrated (Jo Boaler and Amy Ellis come to mind).

But what about cases like this: #notalljeanshorts?

Sorry, there was no way I could pick just one picture.

Woohoo for you! Mr. MRob and I moved to Portland in 2001 and have now moved to the coast. You are going to love it here. It's a pretty easy state to travel about - major cities are all about an hour apart from each other. There's lots to do, see, read about, etc. I highly suggest watching all of the back episodes of

I watched seasons 24 to 1 backwards last year. It was amazing to watch the transformation in reverse.

My grandma was a cat lady. When she passed I thought they would have to bulldoze the house, but some kid bought it for $2000. He found some industrial product to "paint" over the walls and floor (after he ripped out all of the carpet/linoleum/wall paper) that sealed the structure. My mom said there was no more cat

The system is down. The system is down.

I catered a Persian wedding years ago at the University of Iowa that had a fondant cake. Now, this wedding had a timed traditional reception festivities, and being Iowa, it was hot as hell during the summer. Guess what kind of frosting does not hold up well in heat and humidity? Fondant! The poor cake started to lean,

That gif is absolutely mesmerizing.

Oh, they're not drowsy, they're telepathically plotting a puke/poop/pee extravaganza in the videographer's closet.

I caught Mega Shark Vs. Crocosaurus earlier this summer. It was so bad (amazing) that I had a hard time tearing myself away to do actual vacation stuff. I think my love of shark movies/TV comes from watching Jaws on Saturday afternoon TV as a kid.

Personally, I would have loved a practical household chemistry class. We would have learned about mixing bleach with ammonia, what chemicals are best for rust and why, etc. I mean, I loved chemistry, but some experiments were a bit ridiculous.

I hear you. Most of my restaurant friends have left downtown/NW for inner-SE. There are definitely some great places over there.
