Yeah I agree with you here. Even on FAcebook, whenever I give an opinion that’s not politically correct, I will get flamed as a racist.

I think the upvote/downvote system is a large part of why things get so toxic there so fast. Dissenting opinions can be squelched very quickly (it only takes a few downvotes to fall out of view of anyone that uses the default view settings) and large numbers of upvotes are often interpenetrated as proof of validity.

People don’t carefully review facts. If they did, we wouldn’t be stuck with Trump as president.

On the flip side, it’s also where circlejerks are formed and brand worship occurs. In those people’s eyes, certain companies or brand can do no wrong.

Unfortunately, thats not social media. Thats mob mentality in general.
