At this point they should take the Simpsons “Watchmen Babies” gag and turn it into an actual thing. It wouldn’t be any more offensive to the original work than this.

“but the general result was a drastic cut to the expected window between a film’s theatrical and VOD/streaming release.”
The “Made with Real Potato” is somehow less reassuring.
I did that too. Fuck it was so much fun.
ALF was by all accounts absolute hell to film, with the sets being a maze of dangerous trapdoors for the puppeteers, and just about all the actors hating each other. You’d never know it from his performance, which hit the perfect ET-lite note throughout the whole show. And good for him getting out of the business…
Fuck you, buddy! Nicole Kidman is right: We go to that place to experience confusion, hallucinations, other people’s fecal matter, and a host of other things! Because MAGIC!
To a certain extent Netflix, with their shift to original programming, did spark the massive escalation that’s now a problem- it’s not just that everyone put out their own streaming service (itself not a great idea) but they all felt compelled to spend absurd amounts of money on original content exclusively for those…
Caveat: I stopped going to theaters during the pandemic and have not been back mostly because I have young kids now (too young for movie theaters), so if my partner and I get time to ourselves its probably not to go to a theater.
You need a drink, this was an aggressively over the top response to the other dude’s reasonable opinion. Calm down, man!
I will only go to theaters that let me select my seat. That ain’t it chief.
I’m crossing my fingers that, with the Skydance merger, they’ll promptly uncancel Lower Decks and give it the 7 more seasons that it deserves.
People are ignoring Lower Decks? It got five seasons and a SNW crossover that sent people into paroxysms of joy.
He is great on Lower Decks. Lower decks, in general, is a lot of fun and a surprise. People shit on Discovery(unfairly imho) and Picard(fairly there, especially season 2) but they ignored both Lower Decks and Prodigy and both of those are solid additions to the Star Trek Cannon. Season 2 of Prodigy even has a line…
Yes.
Is joke.
they bent the knee for glass onion and even then only let it play for 2 weeks. netflix has a relationship with the tiff theatre here in toronto so i do get to see them sometimes, but why not let people see beverly hills cop 4 in a theatre for 4th of july weekend? what’s the harm?
I like pre-selecting my seats. It allows me to show up 30 mins past the posted start time to avoid the 30 mins of trailers and commercials before the actual film starts. Although they appear to be ratcheting those ad times up, because when I showed up my usual 30 mins late for Furiosa I still had to wait an additional …
I cannot explain why any streamer makes movies except to fill up categories (ex: rom coms) in which they would rather own the product rather than leasing others’ material.
It’s genuinely mysterious to me why streaming companies that have spent significant amounts of money making movies (Netflix spent ~$166m on Rebel Moon) they don’t put those in theaters first with the promise that the only place you will be able to watch it once it leaves theaters is on their streaming service.
I think we got 10 or 11 in a Saturn SC1 back in highschool lol.
