The franchise potential is in the high-concept setup. The reason why people loved it so much was the chemistry and talent of the ensemble cast, who were either unenthusiastic about participating, or ready to phone it in for a paycheck. If they had focused on telling original stories within the concept, and not been so

I think Ghostbusters *could* have become a real franchise if they’d cranked out more sequels in the late 80s and early 90s. Like Jurassic Park and Jaws, this one has a structural problem in that it’s only possible to remake the original with minor variations on the formula — there’s a super-ghost from another

He wasn’t drunk, he was just sitting at the hotel bar drinking for hours waiting for a plane.

I believe the trope, for the most part, is supposed to refer to any black person who kind of mentors or subtly pushes a white person to learning a life lesson to better their own lives. So in the loosest sense, one could assign that role to Morpheus, since he is the one who guides Neo into his ultimate role as The

The review specifically states that he subverts the concept of the magical Negro, but I wouldn’t even put him in the same sentence with the trope. And it’s especially silly to imagine it was at all in the filmmakers' heads considering Will Smith was supposed to play Neo.

Well if i was boarding a plane and was sat down next to someone in a mask I would think that maybe they have a immune deficiency or are just being cautious because planes are basically just a big germ tube. Then again if the person is congested, sweaty, coughing and wearing a mask because they think that will stop

Does that look like the photo of a drunk person to you?

If they’re drunk.

I had a fun interaction with an assistant to an exec on that project. We were chatting about something, don’t remember what, and he mentioned a GB3 draft we just got where Venkman was a ghost. The idea was that IF Murray didn’t want to be on set he wouldn’t have to be, they could do voice-over or mo-cap or something

I am really, REALLY curious how someone else wearing a mask affects him.

Anyone that is that insistent that they aren’t drunk is absolutely drunk. In other news, what an utter child.

It seems like these avant garde performance art style comedians always take things way too far in the name of comedy (see also Andy Kaufman). There may be pushback, but I kind of doubt it, seems like with Borat firmly in the rearview mirror there’s not so much love for SBC.

I did not know that!

The original Road House riff is a classic!  I may watch it this weekend!

So MacGregor is stilted shit in it? Perfect! He’s well on his way down the “worst part of a bad action movie -> striking visual character in a Star Wars project -> oops all transphobia -> making three dollar cowboy movies for Ben Shapiro” pipeline.

The original has one fantastic line. Some generic 80s bad guy, about to fight Swayze, barks out:

Who’s taking the Sam Elliot role?

i think we really lost something when we stopped giving low-level villains monster truck fleets (see also: tango and cash)

Part of the charm of the original was how much suspension of disbelief it took that all that nonsense could even happen. Yeah the big bad might get away with bribing some town sheriff into looking the other way for a while but you can’t go around blowing buildings up, driving monster trucks through car dealerships and

My guess is they were hoping he would be the Terry Funk of this version.
