Hell, I remember when TNG came out and I was dismissive of it at first because it wasn’t about Kirk/Spock/etc. And I was nine years old. Then I started watching it anyway and was immediately hooked (and it’s still my favorite Trek).

Paramount with a backbone...that would be nice but pretty unlikely. I fear that the success of The Orville may have done enough to make Paramount scared that they’re just creating opportunities for someone else to retread Berman Trek for a nice payday.

I’d like to set Trek in that timeframe, but then focus on a different ship with different people. Tired of Kirk, Spock, etc. It’s the same problem Star Wars has by hyperfocusing on the Skywalkers and Skywalker-adjacent people in a universe that is so potentially large.

🤔 Hm, I suppose you’re right; if Trek on TV (its native habitat) has been lacking for a while, then a movie could possibly be a catalyst for reinvigorating interest in it.

Sony have done this for the same reason car manufacturers now offer cars exclusively in silver, black and white.

Blatant fan catering is tight!

Oh, least original, least creative, safest, most blatantly fan catering firms are tight!

“Somehow Palpatine Returned: The Movie.”

Why isn’t the graphic spelled Kaaron Rodgers?

Former journalist here.

It’s generally unusual for actors to drive themselves to set on a professional film production. She raises the insurance issue, which probably is a big one. You’re making an $80m movie that’s main draw is that, I dunno, The Rock is starring in it, the insurer will want to know that you’re keeping Mr Rock as wrapped in

So, I was about to talk about that part. I think if we were talking about Black Panther or something like that, the point would stand. I think it’s less supportable with this movie. Black translates all over the world for sure, but this type of Black agrarian struggle experience does not. This was not the experience

Also, it isn’t true that “if we did it for you we gotta do it for everybody”. I’ve not seen the movie, but I’m sure there are lead actors and there are supporting actors. Every actor in a movie does not  get the same compensation or perks.

I feel for the guy, but “I wrote some of these, and they’re the ones you’re laughing at” is the sweatiest thing I’ve ever heard from a host. Maybe I’m falling victim to recency bias.

“So what, we just some kind of.... Live-service game?"

Still pushing for it to be called Xitter (with the X being pronounced like SH).

Def Jam vs Capcom

Mail Order Monsters! Someone else remembers that game! I had a (poorly) cracked version of it as a kid that didn’t save monsters off properly, so I was never able to continue a campaign past a single sitting. Trying to figure out how to best outfit a Hominid with almost no cash and building your way up towards bigger
