It seems logical that they could/would automate the performance sliders that folks on the PC side use to optimize their settings for their particular hardware. In fact, they may already be doing that but I’m not particularly knowledgeable about how the mechanics of XSX vs. XSS stuff works code- or UX-wise.

Is feature parity why Starfield only runs at 30 fps on Series X? It seems like the hardware should be beefy enough to handle 60 fps but if it has to run at the same framerate as its little brother that would explain it.

Nothing wrong with that at all! It’s not dissimilar to timed console exclusivity in that way.

I liken it to home theater. It’s something I enjoy even though it’s objectively a chore to deal with as well as being expensive. But I’m absolutely not going to look down at anyone who just wants to plug a soundbar in and be done with it. That’s a totally valid choice too, and reflects their interests and priorities.

And aside from the cost, there’s the PITA factor. Consoles are simple and easy. They’re purpose-built devices that do one thing. You want a device that plays PlayStation games? Here are your two choices, pick one, plug it in, and have fun.

I can definitely understand being ride-or-die on one platform, but at least in terms of dollar (or pound, euro, yen, etc.) cost, consoles are cheap. If you added up the cost of all the current-gen consoles in my house, it would still be less than a good gaming PC would cost.

I had a conversation with the PA I was working with for a colonoscopy about pancreatic cancer and she said that there’s a genetic marker that, if there’s a family history and a person has that marker, they can get regular additional testing of some sort to catch it early.

And some people are fine with paying the premium associated with pre-built NAS cases. But others like to march in and insult people so they can strut their PCMR bona-fides, it seems; that’s the internet for you.

I use DVDFab to rip mine and yeah, while it’s not difficult, it’s definitely a timesink. And if you want to rip UHD discs, you have to be mindful of the model and firmware of the drive since only some of them can do it.

I wasn’t up there so I don’t know all the details, just what my mom related to me and I didn’t want to press it. I do know they were doing some sort of palliative care but I don’t know any specifics. He was at home rather than in a permanent care setting like hospice so maybe that had something to do with it?

If you use RAID-quality drives, though, the cost goes up significantly. Looking at Amazon, 8TB (the size in each of my arrays) Seagate IronWolf NAS drives are going for $178.99. So for another 22.1TB array, it’s close to $800 including sales tax but adding the RAID enclosure is going to put it at or above $1000.

I rip everything I buy as soon as I unwrap it. I know it’s not a perfect copy (I could make perfect copies but I only have 44.2 TB of storage and a lot of discs) but it’s better than nothing.

I use a product called StreamFab to download a copy of stuff from services I subscribe to or that I’ve purchased outright. It works well, though they do have to update pretty frequently to get around the streamers’ attempts to prevent it.
