This is the 2nd time that I've read this & I'm confused because I was commenting over there AFTER you posted this. 

I suspect that was the goal all along--ownership just thought they could do this without muss or fuss.

I remember when Gawker died, and we had a couple of huge centralized good bye threads that brought out everybody. Everybody came out of the woodwork, and every comment was just hilarious and biting, and feisty, and poignant, and nostalgic.

Not surprisingly, what’s happening at Deadspin is just a microcosm of what’s happening in the United States right now. 

Congratulations, Jim! I don’t like sports but I would read Deadspin. I don’t like cars but I would read Jalopnik. I’m not American, but I checked Splinter dozens of times a day.
