The problem with these big-ticket, flagship “ripped from the headlines” type melodramas that the BBC spits out with a mechanical regularity is that they don’t actually interrogate the issues or circumstances around the subject they depict.  It’s just moments of vile glumness, punctuated by rousing triumphalist “we’re

You son of a bitch!  I'm in.

This might be enough to tempt me back, I actually stopped midway through Moffatt.  I already knew Chibnall was a dreadful writer and my occasional check-ins confirmed that.  But I am not wholly convinced that this will be great: even Rusty started to run out of steam before the end of his run.

They should have got Martin Short to play him.  With his Clifford outfit.

Sorry... Who has misconstrued Craig's comments in the way described by the article?

It would have confirmed something about the ending. Nothing ought to be confirmed by that ending. We all reasonably assume that the show ends when Tony ends (if that’s what happens), but to have it confirmed that someone survived would have nailed too much stuff down.

(Unless the plan was to just have Carmela appearing

Has anyone here read The Right To Sex by Amia Srinivasan?

...I have literally never thought of this.  Well done!

It’s fucking wild the way people in this comments section think there’s a way to draw a conclusion about the truth of these claims based on court documents obtained via TMZ. You don't have enough information to draw any sort of conclusion, dudes.

Its weird and obnoxious to declare an allegiance to a particular "side" in a feud like this.

If you watch the pilot to the Sopranos, there’s a lot more Scorcese/Goodfellas in it. It strikes me that Chase was eager to shed this, and it’s for the best that the show quickly moved past that tone, because the show is about those characters’ relationship with the mafia mythology. I’m certain that Newark will be

ILM still can’t crack the “cursed wax dummy” vibe.  They couldn’t do it for Peter Cushing, they couldn’t do it for Mark Hamill and they can’t do it for Abba.  Songs are nice enough though.

Look I know I'm just inviting "if you don't like it don't read it" and I absolutely don't believe that the answer is to stop reporting on this stuff, but is anyone else detecting an uncomfortable tone in the AVClub's reporting on abuse lately?  There's a salaciousness to it, in my estimation.  I could very well be

Kanye West is not a well man.

I knew I wouldn't be quick enough to post this.

It doesn’t improve the originals: Harryhausen was animating for scale (ie, the time it takes to get from point a to point b is based on the time it would take a big thing to make that motion at 24p), and by smoothing out the motion you return the models to actual size. The new look highlights “errors” (for want of a

I wonder if Sandra Dee and Sandra Oh ever met, in order to form a club around being Sandras whose surname is a bit like the full spelling of a letter of the alphabet.

I think one of Zazie’s zees is pronounced as an S though. I love her far more than the creators of this bizzaritude, but she has no grounds for complaint.

Kanye West is, I’m certain, the reason scientists keep trying to train AI to write pop songs.  The sooner they can get a machine to replicate his napkin-scratchings and bizarre utterances, the sooner he can get the mental healthcare he needs, without jeopardizing the gazillions of unearned dollars he brings in.

As I began reading this review and it became apparent that it was one of those movies that American film school children make after learning about the French New Wave, I genuinely had the thought: I wonder which seminal text she’ll be shown to read? Proust or Orwell?
