I've done that as well, most of the time it works great. This time around I ordered from the Lego shop website, mistake on my part.

Be careful with the blind bag grab, ordered some of the new series from the website and ended up with a lot of the same minifigs. I'm still a huge fan and love the new series, just a bit disheartening.
