It was just too early in the show to bring in a quasi-mystical element like the Soul Hunters. If you had saved that until later in the season, it might have gotten a better reaction.

The show has really changed from "four geeky dudes hang out with their hot neighbor chick" to "Three geek men and their three ladies have adventures". Sadly, Raj gets left out of the latter scenario unless they find him a girlfriend too.

I'm pretty sure that Californication has hair and makeup people on staff, not to mention a wardrobe staff and other people who could give Becca a nice makeover. A radical change in her appearance would at least give the character a little more juice.
