I believe MightyText uses whatever msg app you are using. I use hangouts by default but even then some of my hangouts are set to use sms/mms. I give MightyText two thumbs up. I use it everyday to text from within my gmail without fail of messaging or syncing.

I just recently renewed my lease and it was going to go up almost 200. I went to the office and basically said that was too much of an increase and can you do better. Sure enough I still have an increase but only about 50 bucks.
