Thats the exact problem. Every time someone slips in front my car backs off the throttle, spreading the gap. I’ve learned how to make it work to my advantage and honestly couldn't imagine a car without it. Its great merging onto the interstate, setting it, and getting off two hours later without having to move your feet, as long as you're patient.

Mine will put you through the windshield if theres a cyclist on the shoulder. You learn to predict how it will react and plan your next move before it detects whatever is ahead of you. Unless of course you aren't paying attention, then its a lifesaver.

It really is a pain with adaptive cruise control. Mine tends to pace just far enough behind for someone to slip in and when they do, I pace just far enough for someone to slip in again. I tend to gas it a bit to close the gap but as soon as I lift off it stomps the brakes opening it back up.
