Avoiding Verizon’s app would actually do the opposite of what you want though, right? Whether or not you use Verizon’s app, they enrolled people in this program.  You have to use Verizon’s app or their website to opt out of this.

I’ve only had my Pixel 6 Pro for about a week now, and the in-screen fingerprint reader is definitely slower than my Pixel 5's rear fingerprint reader.  That said, it’s not so slow or error prone that I’ve wanted to get rid of the phone.  I’ve only registered each of my fingerprints once, and they all work fine.
