I friend of mine who is a practicing Muslim explained the rationale pretty well: any image of the Prophet is inherently false, because it is man’s approximation, his imagination and therefore, the image is not Him, so much as one that, though well meaning, is ultimately one that provokes false worship, as one starts

The argument here is that any depiction of Mohammed is disrespectful because Muslims take the “no graven images” bit on the Old Testament very seriously (unlike, say, Christians).

It’s something like the one hard rule the MPAA has. Everything else is weird and arbitrary and nobody understands it.

It’s Disney +. Perhaps the + is fucks.

Fuck Pepperidge Farm!

Amen. I don’t think you’ll find many similar lines of thought in a comments section, but you’re 100% on the money. What’s super creepy is people keep fixating on the age difference, and then pretending to find it not creepy at all that someone would date the youngest women possible, that it’s quite logical, in fact.

Or, they could just stop production and that way, no one has to be subjected to another version of West Side Story.

I’m not defending Chris D’elia. The guy’s an arsehole but this habit of burying any production that pricks like him have appeared in is a sketchy one and unfair to the co-stars and dozens, if not hundreds of people who helped make it

Everyone brace yourselves for the freeze-peach-in-comedy defenders that will reference George Carlin.

and for everyone in the back: automatically denying something is not somehow more intellectually virtuous than taking it seriously. if your reaction to someone saying ‘i’ve been raped’ is ‘sounds like technically it was legal’ you’re not some cool contrarian you’re just a dweeb.

just for everyone in the back: the issue isn’t that it-might-possibly-technically not be statutory rape. the issue is that what she’s describing is regular rape, including the phrase ‘we need to break you in’ while deflowering a 17 year old.

Lotta rape apologist shitheads in the comments on a sunday morning with nothing better to do than be shitheads. Ignore them.

People can have consensual sex with whom ever they wish, and yes that’s been a feminist tenet for years. That is not permission to be raped, as you imply, because rape is not consensual.  Hope that clears it up for you.

I mean, who can say if it's one of those 30 year old women with braces, pigtails, and teddy bears.

kill yourself

“Girls should be able to be a fan of a comedian they admire without being a sexual target. It’s the adult’s responsibility to be an adult.”

Wonderfully put.

I’ve seen countless discussions over the past week about D’Elia, Warren Ellis, and Cameron Stewart and nobody has been able to say it so aptly or succinctly.

I watched this movie lightly baked and the opening scene put me into a delicious trance. I’m afraid to rewatch it and spoil the effect.

Fascinating premise, great performance, uneasy execution. Probably my biggest complaint is we really don’t know how Kidman’s character is any different by the end of the movie than she was at the beginning.

I have been a practicing attorney for 15 years, and let me just say something that I feel everyone should know: You do not need to be smart to go to law school. People think you do, but you don’t. Exhibit A illustrating this phenomenon is of course, me. Exhibit B is Ted Cruz, who reveals himself to be an utter moron

I’m always excited when Twitter *doesn’t* reveal a character actor I like is actually a conservative asshole.
