I finished Vikings season 4 part 1, so maybe I finished half of season 4 of that show? I don't know, the labeling on Amazon makes it pretty confusing. I'll discuss that though with Scrawler below.

I kinda see Mercia being swallowed up by either Ecbert or Aelle and the son being killed off because he is "Ragnar's."

There seem to be a few possibilities for Kwentrith, one is a Mercian princess around this time period called Cwenthryth, doesnt seem to be much about her though, no mention of a son, but was in charge of an Abbey. The other is an earlier Anglo-Saxon queen Cynethryth who was a queen of Mercia and had coinage stamped

Ok so another two things that I just thought about: the Vikings eddas/sagas were always interested in mixing the historical and semi-myth. They turned the historical into myth to make them live on. So Ragnar is very mythical, but his sons are quasi-historical, and those that came after them are very historical. its

Do you also feel that Ragnar's mortality is weighing much heavier on him this season? It really makes me think that the show might kill him and keep going. Part of the legend of Ragnar Lothbrook is what his death triggers and how his sons react to his death. And this season more than any other feels like Ragnar on

A Good Treason:

I caught up on the new Twin Peaks, and also finally got around to seeing Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Also I watched the first five episodes of Vikings season 4 to discuss with Scrawler.

I think I am still in the contestant pool from the last test, so I sat this one out. Of course I am not expecting to get the call after my live audition last year, but eh fingers eternally crossed

ah ok. then 5 it is!

still want to watch next week? i don't want to do it if it is gonna inconvenience you

4 or 5 episodes?

I also haven't watched any Kimmy Schmidt yet, but honestly when we did Season 2 I didn't think it made for good discussion. So personally I'd rather do other shows as discussions and just watch Kimmy Schmidt independently. Is that cool?

Right and I think that Pino being unwilling to listen is why she has no engagement ring at the end, I think she did leave him, but I think she was more interested in leaving that life. And I think the continued indecision she has is in the fact that she still doesn't know what she is running from and what she wants.

I also think that if Francesca was looking for an escape there is probably a way to do that without breaking everything, only maybe what she desires to escape is Modena as much as Pino. So rushing to Dev if she is looking to escape Modena is the last thing she needs.

I think you are right that the show was probably being critical, but because Dev is the main character and because like you say we typically see his hero complex as a good thing I think it makes it unclear here. And yes a friend would be interested in telling her how to make smart changes, without the personal gain. I

I really like this thought, but I'm not sure I even know how to engage it. I think that it is definitely true that the complexity of the feelings increase as we go to characters we know better, and that complexity allows us to see things in negative lights that may otherwise be positive. But the thing that troubles me

I want to talk more about Dev and Francesca because I feel I would just be praising the other episodes and that doesn't make as interesting conversation typically. I like that you bring up the contrasting ethical dilemmas posed by both Chef Jeff and Francesca in the last episodes, but whereas I think he is aware and

New York, I Love You:
What a wonderful episode focusing on characters that might otherwise be ancillary in most shows. First I love how the conceit looks like it will start with Dev, Arnold and Denise talking about a very Seinfeld-ian movie like Death Castle (starring Nic Cage!) and then it just pans over and we are

I finished Master of None and will discuss it with Scrawler below.

he has a formula for how to make movies cheap and he is very very good at sticking to that formula. he also bets on people who through a variety of reasons cannot guarantee a massive budget for their movie or are desperate for something to get their name back out there. anyway he makes a lot of small bets, the worst
