i think it is because fantasy and sci fi creates worlds and spaces that are such blank slates that you can bring a lot more of your personal beliefs into them. now some do it in a way that isn't integral to the story, but others do it in a way that lets their prejudices show through in ugly ways

He shows up in the beginning in NYC, but not again until the beginning of episode 2.

Yeah the mystery aspect never hooked me, but the raw angry damaged people part sunk its hooks in real good

That one was particularly bad because of how derivative it seemed of his own work in Osten Ard

yeah we've discussed him before. I too loved Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn and while I think it mostly holds up the bloat is the one weakness. I am hopeful this new series will not succumb to it, but I know it will

I think that is my favorite (but UBIK and Valis are definitely up there)

have you read Flow My Tears the Policeman Said?

Flow My Tears the Policeman Said is my favorite Dick

second this rec

Something you should know if you continue reading after Hyperion. Only the first sequel is a direct sequel. The two other sequels take place much later in time, but the first sequel really should be read as it completes the story of Hyperion

Hyperion makes me long for the days when Simmons was an amazing genre writer and not a crackpot who brings his warped world views into his work

the only other of Simmons novels that compares to Hyperion is The Terror.

Bonehunters is one of my favorites in that series

Hoo boy a lot to cover since last month, lets go in order:

Ok before I begin I just want to say a few things: 1) I find myself laughing harder at this show than any other I can remember in a long time. I expected it to be funny, but it is absolutely hysterical. 2) Rachel Bloom is amazing. 3) God I love the songs, in fact I am goign to rank the songs we have heard so far:

watched the first four episodes of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend to discuss with Scrawler. I'll do that below

I had the same problem with the Village where I figured out basically everything that was going on 5 minutes in and the rest of the movie i just sat there waiting for confirmation and it really made me hate the movie. I think Signs is the last movie of his that I enjoyed and that is because it was so damn well

the Small Wonder reference was a perfect joke. So no I caught it too

it was like having an acid flashback

there are 18 in season 1, so i figure we go 4 or 5 in a week, just depends on if you want to start with 4 or 5
